Elsbeth Siebenbürger , née Tesmer (born November 3, 1914 in Liegnitz , Lower Silesia , † February 22, 2007 in Esslingen am Neckar , Baden-Württemberg ) was a German sculptor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Liegnitz (1933) she did an apprenticeship at the wood carving school Bad Warmbrunn , passed her journeyman's examination as a wood sculptor in 1937 and then worked as a freelance in her home town. Her previous work is all lost, only one is still preserved: In the town hall of Hirschberg you can find the panels on the city's history, which were made under the direction of her teacher Ernst Rülke (1896–1964) and in which she played a major role.

In 1938 she married Ulrich Siebenbürger and had three children in the following years. In 1945 she had to flee from Silesia and first came to Förtha, a district of Marksuhl in Thuringia , where she worked as a sculptor again, and in 1947 she took her master's degree in Weimar .

Four years later (1951) she came to Cuxhaven . There she received an invitation to a sculptor symposium from Ernst Rülke, the last director of the Bad Warmbrunn wood carving school. As a result, she came to Esslingen in 1956, where she lived until her death, and helped her former teacher to set up the new "master school for wood sculptors" in Stuttgart , where the tradition of the Warmbrunn wood carving school was continued.

After Rülke's death, Siebenbürger founded the “Ernst-Rülke-Kreis”, kept the memory of the important Silesian art school alive in many events and wood sculptor symposia and carried on its artistic tradition.

Finally, she bequeathed a collection of wood sculptures to the Silesian Museum in Görlitz by students from the Warmbrunn wood carving school and other Silesian artists who worked in this tradition.

Transylvanian was a sponsor of the "Free Art School Nürtingen ", today one of the most interesting technical schools in Baden-Württemberg, and was involved as a member of the " Esslingen Artists' Guild " and the "Kulturwerk Schlesien" foundation . She also gave lectures and seminars in art associations and in the adult education center .
