Else Wiegandt , actually Dorothea Gertrude Elisabeth Wiegandt , (born December 10, 1894 in Bremen , † February 3, 1985 in Sandhatten ) was a German painter .

biography

Else Wiegandt was the daughter of the painter Bernhard Wiegandt and his wife Bertha Gertrude. The painter Bertha Wiegandt was her sister. The family moved to Bremen in 1890. Else Wiegandt attended the secondary school for girls in Bremen.

The two daughters received their drawing and painting training from their father. Else was allowed to move to Berlin at the age of 15 , where she was trained by Bruno Paul , Emil Orlik and then by Walter Helbig . She learned illustration , etching and woodcut .

In 1914 she received a silver medal for her work at the International Exhibition for Book Trade and Graphics ( Bugra ) in Leipzig. So she was able to establish herself in the circle of Berlin artists and she exhibited in Berlin. She returned to Bremen at the end of the 1920s.

In 1929 she was appointed to the advisory board of the Association of Artists and Art Supporters GEDOK in Bremen. From 1932 to 1942 she was also a member of the Bremer Malerinnenverein, the Künstlerbund and the Werkbund. Despite the sale of her works, she needed the support of her sister; both lived in Bremen- Schwachhausen in a shared house with a studio and exhibition room. In the mid-1940s, Else Wiegandt moved to Sandhatten near Oldenburg .

Works

Wiegandt produced illustrated animal fables , wood carvings, glass paintings and oil paintings using various techniques. Animal pictures - also of exotic animals - were of particular interest. Like her sister , she also portrayed . Some of her works are in the Kunsthalle Bremen , in the graphic library of the Bremen City Library and in the Focke Museum Bremen.
