Emanuel Sandhu (born November 18, 1980 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian figure skater who started in a single run .
Sandhu was born in Toronto and raised in Richmond Hill . His mother is from Italy , his father is a Sikh . Sandhu began taking ballet lessons at the age of three and figure skating at the age of eight. He graduated from Canada's prestigious National Ballet School. A year after he started figure skating, he was discovered by Joanne McLeod . She remained his trainer until the end of his career.
In 2001, 2003 and 2004, Sandhu became the Canadian champion. At world championships he was able to place five times in the top ten, his best result was fifth place at the 2006 World Cup in Calgary, home . In 2004 he was runner-up at the four continents championships behind his compatriot Jeffrey Buttle . Shortly before, he had surprisingly won the Grand Prix final ahead of Yevgeny Pljuschtschenko and achieved a personal record number of 228.29 points. Sandhu took part in the Winter Olympics twice. In 2002 in Salt Lake City he had to withdraw injured, in 2006 in Turin he was 13.
