Emil Dill (born April 15, 1861 in Pratteln , † May 23, 1938 in Liestal ) was a Swiss painter , watercolorist and art teacher .

Life

Emil Dill began his training in 1877 at the trade school in Basel , in 1878 he learned how to draw patterns in the Baur & Son tape factory. From 1881 he studied at the Royal Art School in Stuttgart and from 1883 at the Grand Ducal Baden Art School in Karlsruhe with Ferdinand Keller .

In 1885 he came to Paris with Emil Beurmann to study at the Académie Julian a . a. to study with William Adolphe Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury . On the advice of Lovis Corinth , he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich from April 24, 1887 to 1888 with Ludwig von Löfftz . In Munich he met Cuno Amiet , Hans Emmenegger and Giovanni Giacometti .

In 1890 he became an employee of Nebelspalters .

After a stay in Basel, he returned to Munich in 1892 to study art history, architecture and building construction at the Royal Bavarian Technical University . In 1894 he opened a painting school together with Albert Fierz in Zurich , but in 1895 he was appointed professor at the Canton School of Zug . Until 1935 he taught drawing, calligraphy and mathematics.

In 1897 Emil Dill married Marie Bohny from Liestal in 1897 and had two daughters: Pia (* 1899) and Margarethe (* 1900). In 1901 he became a member of the Zurich Artists' Association. In 1902 he was awarded a gold medal at the art exhibition in the Munich Glass Palace .

In 1937 the Dill family moved to Liestal, where the artist died a year later.
