Emmanuel Kipchirchir Mutai (born October 12, 1984 in Uasin Gishu ) is a Kenyan marathon runner .
In 2006 he won the Nice Half Marathon . He finished second in the 10 km du Conseil Général and sixth in the Rotterdam half marathon . The following year he was fifth in the Lisbon half marathon and seventh in the Rotterdam marathon . He achieved a huge increase in autumn with victories at the Portugal half marathon and the Amsterdam marathon , which he won in 2:06:29 h. This was the second fastest time of the year behind the world record time of Haile Gebrselassie .
In 2008 he was third in the 20 van Alphen , fourth in the London Marathon and won the Great Scottish Run. At the Chicago Marathon he kept the pace going for a long time, but then fell back to fifth place. In 2009 he finished sixth in the Lisbon Half Marathon and finished fourth in the London Marathon for the third time under 2:07. In the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Berlin , he won the silver medal behind his compatriot Abel Kirui in 2:07:48 h , and he came second in the Portugal half marathon.
In 2010 a third place in the Lisbon Half Marathon was followed by a second place in the London and New York City Marathon . The following year he finally managed to win the London Marathon. He improved the course record and his personal best to 2:04:40 h.
Although he fell ill with typhus in March 2012 , he finished 7th in the following London Marathon that year.
The 1.62-meter-tall Mutai, who is being trained by Renato Canova , was also in the Kenyan squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics and finished 17th on the Olympic marathon route in London .
In 2014, he finished second in the Berlin Marathon in 2:03:13 hours. Like the winner Dennis Kimetto , he stayed below Wilson Kipsang's previous world record . The following year he finished fourth in Berlin with 2:07:46.
