Marking of the Emscher-Weg

The Emscher-Weg is a cycle path that mostly runs parallel to the Emscher in the Ruhr area. It was created by the Emschergenossenschaft . The Emscher-Weg should not be confused with the Emscher Park cycle path of the Ruhr Regional Association, which also runs in the Ruhr area .

Route

Starting at the Emscher source in Holzwickede , the Emscherweg, completed in 2004, leads through the cities and communities of Dortmund , Castrop-Rauxel , Recklinghausen , Herne , Gelsenkirchen , Essen and Oberhausen to the Emscher estuary into the Rhine near Dinslaken . The approximately 120-kilometer cycle path through the Ruhr area is reasonably well signposted and often uses routes and routes that are not open to motorized traffic. But you should pay close attention to the small, often hidden signs so as not to deviate from the route. The Emscher-Weg does not always run right next to the Emscher. It mostly meanders between the Emscher, Rhein-Herne Canal and A 42 .

In addition to scenic passages, you are also guided along sewage treatment plants, below motorway underpasses and over sewers. Thus, the Emscher-Weg does not give a beautified view of the Ruhr area, but shows a real view of areas that have not changed during the structural change.

There are many sights on the Route of Industrial Culture along the Emscher-Weg .
