Erich Duggen

Erich Duggen (born February 23, 1910 in Schleswig , † December 18, 1989 in Heide (Holstein) ) was a German painter of late impressionism and expressionism .

Life

Erich Duggen was born in Schleswig and grew up in northern Germany. He passed his Abitur in 1928 at the Kiel School of Academics . At school he was introduced to the works of Emil Nolde and Ernst Barlach . From 1929 to 1933 he studied art in Berlin. With the artist group “Kieler Werksgemeinschaft” he came to St. Peter-Ording in Eiderstedt for the first time in 1934 . Further painting trips took him to Sylt and Amrum, among others . In 1942 he married the Eiderstedt farmer's daughter Käte Jens. He suffered a head injury during World War II. From 1948 he worked as an art teacher at the North Sea High School in Sankt Peter-Ording; In 1964 he was given early retirement because of his injury. At the same time he continued his artistic career. He painted in the style of impressionism and expressionism . His motifs were mainly North Frisian landscapes, but also flowers, girls and women.

aftermath

In 2015, Duggen's son and grandchildren donated an extensive estate to the community gallery in St. Peter-Ording as the “Duggen Foundation”.
