Erich Kleiber (born November 12, 1929 in Troppau , Czechoslovakia , † December 11, 1985 ) was a German-Austrian actor , cabaret artist , theater director and voice actor .

Life

From the age of six Erich Kleiber played children's roles at the Stadttheater von Troppau, including Heinerle in Der fidele Bauer . Here he attended Professor Otto's drama school. He made his debut at the Stadttheater Wien in 1946 and moved to the Volkstheater that same year . In 1947 he played at the New Theater on Tizianstrasse in Vienna and at the Lustspielhaus on Occamstrasse in Munich.

From 1948 to 1954 he was part of the ensemble of the Volksoper Munich, where he also worked as a director. In 1948/49 he appeared at the Stadttheater von Landsberg am Lech , and in 1950 at the cabaret “Die Mausefalle” in Stuttgart. From 1962 to 1970 he was a member of the cabaret “Die Onion” in Munich. In 1966 he worked at the Volkstheater in Munich , where he also worked as a director. 1974 to 1976 he worked at the Franconian Theater Maßbach and from 1982/83 at the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz as Alter Fritz in Casanova . There were also guest appearances and tours.

An important theater role by Kleiber was that of Striese in The Robbery of the Sabine Women . His productions included Three Men on a Horse by George Abbott and Der Schusternazi by Ludwig Thoma . In the 1970s he worked on several comedies and had a three-year contract with Artur Brauner's CCC film .

Kleiber also worked as an author for the radio. He wrote four episodes of the radio play series The Experts and the music series Drei Paar Wiener mit Musik for BR . As a voice actor, he mainly worked for cartoons. In Curt Linda's The Conference of Animals (1969) he lent his voice to the kangaroo and in Linda's Shalom Pharaoh (1982) the figure of the secretary. He was also active as a singer with self-written chansons . His children Claudia Kleiber (* 1965) and Clemens Kleiber (* 1967, † 1998) appeared in numerous youth programs.
