Erich Berthold Ludwig Wilhelm Lindemann (born May 8, 1888 in Güstrow , † May 2, 1945 in Eichberg, Erbach (Rheingau) ) was a German phycologist and taxonomist .

Life

Erich Lindemann, a younger son of the Güstrow high school teacher Hartwig Lindemann, attended the secondary school in his hometown and passed his Abitur here in 1907. He then studied natural sciences in Munich , Berlin and above all Rostock , where he passed the examination for teaching at secondary schools. After a brief activity as a scientific volunteer at the Natural History Museum in Lübeck , he was hired by the Provincial School College in Poznan as a candidate for the higher teaching post. Lindemann worked successively at the Rawicz grammar school , the Chodzież , Poznań and Wolsztyn secondary schools , the Rogoźno grammar school , the Poznań upper secondary school , the Ostrów Wielkopolski grammar school and the royal Comenius grammar school in Leszno . In Wrocław took place in 1915 the doctorate at the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University in Breslau at Ferdinand Albert Pax . From 1919 to 1924 Lindemann was a teacher at the Reform Realgymnasium in Tempelhof (Berlin), which became part of the Askanisches Gymnasium after 1945 . Lindemann was given temporary retirement in 1924 (possibly as part of the staff reduction ordinance of October 27, 1923) and final retirement in 1933 (possibly in connection with the law for the restoration of the civil service ).

Lindemann came from a family of teachers, was an Evangelical Lutheran denomination and was unmarried. He took part in the First World War, was a non-commissioned officer and had been wearing the Iron Cross 2nd class since 1917 .

Lindemann's scientific work includes the description of numerous species of Dinophyceae . His botanical author abbreviation is " Er.Lindem. ". Eponymy: Hemidinium lindemannii Skvortsov, Peridinium lindemannii M.Lefèvre, Stylodinium lindemannii Baumeister. Lindemann was the editor-in-chief of the journal Schriften für Freshwater and Marine Science and a founding member of the International Association for Theoretical and Applied Limnology (SIL) .
