Erich Walter Barthold (born November 17, 1920 in Pfullingen ; † November 5, 2000 in Reutlingen ) was a German businessman and politician ( CDU ). From 1960 to 1980 Barthold was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg (MdL).

Life

After attending the commercial college in Reutlingen , Erich Barthold did his military service as a reserve officer between 1939 and 1946 and was taken prisoner of war . For many years he was the owner of a specialist shop for office machines and furniture as well as a manufacturing company for paper and plastics processing.

In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1960 , Barthold obtained a seat for the 3rd electoral term of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg through a second mandate in the constituency of Reutlingen (constituency 65) ( administrative district of Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern ).

In the election that took place four years later, only a few votes decided on a renewed mandate from Barthold. In the state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1964 , the option of postal voting was offered for the first time , which was also used by 56 voters in the Meckenbeuren old people's home ; 49 voted for the CDU, four for the SPD and one for the FDP, two votes were invalid. While the district electoral committee of Wangen did not count the votes due to an alleged formal error, which would have resulted in a state election result of 58 seats for the CDU, 47 for the SPD and 15 for the FDP, the state election committee in Stuttgart counted the votes, giving the CDU 59 Mandates and the FDP received 14 mandates. The former Calw district administrator and FDP district chairman of the Calw district, Emil Wagner , then lodged an objection to the election , which the parliamentary groups of the SPD and FDP approved in the state parliament. The CDU then applied to the State Court of Baden-Wuerttemberg "with the annulment of the state parliament decision to reject the objection of the citizen Emil Wagner against the state election as unfounded and to establish that the decision of the state election committee on the determination of the election result in the constituency of Wangen and that based on this decision Allocation of parliamentary seats for the administrative district Südwürttemberg-Hohenzollern is valid ". The state court of Baden-Württemberg followed the application of the CDU and awarded the second mandate to Erich Barthold (constituency 65 Reutlingen) and not to the state chairman of the FDP, Hermann Saam .

In the elections for the 5th (1968–1972) , 6th (1972–1976) and 7th electoral term (1976–1980) of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg, Barthold won the direct mandate of the Reutlingen constituency and was able to take his seat as a member of the Defend the Landtag. During his time in the state parliament he acted as a financial policy spokesman and was temporarily chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the state parliament. He was also a member of the district council of the Reutlingen district and chairman of the Neckar-Alb region .

On May 10, 1980 , Erich Barthold was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit .

Erich Barthold died on November 5, 2000, just a few days before he was 80 years old in Reutlingen.
