Cut in the own slab through the Molasse northeast of Römerswil |
The Erlosen (in the Middle Ages still "the Erlose", also just "Erlose" for unploughed ) is part of a range of hills in the canton of Lucerne and canton of Aargau in Switzerland . The ridge lies west of the Baldegger and Hallwilersee lakes and stretches from Rain LU and Hildisrieden via Römerswil to its highest point (811 m) above Herlisberg , from where it drops almost to Beinwil am See . It closes the Lucerne Seetal in the west, while the Lindenberg forms the eastern border.
geology
The approximately 16 kilometer long and 5 kilometer wide range of hills is mainly made of molasse sandstone, which was formed in the Riss Ice Age . During the Würm Ice Age , it was covered with gravel banks from the Reuss Glacier, which today are cut through by many small stream valleys, mostly reaching to the molasse, such as the Sagenbach, Eigenobel and others. The range of hills feeds both Sempacher and Baldeggersee with these many small streams .
Economical meaning
Since the Erlosen separates the Seetal from the Suhrental , the road between Hochdorf , Hildisrieden and the A2 motorway entrance "Sempach" is particularly important for traffic.
The range of hills is also of economic importance for the cement and concrete industries, which obtain stone from several gravel pits. Because of its panorama ( Säntis to Napf ) the Erlosen is a popular recreation area for bikers and hikers.
