Ernst Carl von der Brüggen (born November 10, 1840 in Laidsen , Courland , † December 5, 1903 in Riga ) was a German-Baltic editor and political author .

Life

Origin and family

The unmarried Ernst Carl vdB came from the German-Baltic noble family von der Brüggen . His father was in Russian service, Lieutenant Colonel Axel Heinrich von der Brüggen (1799–1868), who was married to Johanna von Liphardt (1810–1878).

Career

Ernst Carl received until it into the school in Dorpat came in home schooling . Then he attended the school facility Schmidtsche Anstalt in Fellin and passed the school leaving examination . He studied law at the University of Dorpat from 1860 to 1864 , moved to Berlin in 1865 and then to Dresden and came back to Riga in 1866.

His professional career began in 1867 as a civil servant in the Livonian governor's government , where he remained until 1871. From 1870 to 1872 he was editor of the Baltic Monthly . During his travels to Germany , Holland and Italy he gained journalistic experience and in 1876 worked for the National-Zeitung in Berlin . Then he moved from 1879 to 1882 and again in 1886 as a farmer to Degaizen in the Kovno governorate ( Telšiai district ). From 1882 to 1886 he worked as a writer in Berlin and from 1885 to 1886 he was involved in the founding of the German Colonial Society and in 1885 temporarily employed in the Foreign Office in Berlin. From 1869 he was the owner of the Degaizen estate.
