Ernst Dostal (sculptor)
Ernst Dostal (born December 31, 1921 in Brno / Czechoslovakia ; † March 30, 2017 ) was a German sculptor whose works shape the Wiesbaden cityscape.
life and work
Dostal attended the teacher training college in Brno and after the Second World War worked for a wood sculptor in Tauberbischofsheim . In 1948 he enrolled at the Wiesbaden School of Applied Arts and then studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt until 1955 . After completing his studies, he entered the school service of the State of Hesse and worked as an art teacher at the Gutenberg School in Wiesbaden.
Working in public space
Dostal created the following public commissioned works for Wiesbaden:
- 1952: the Bodenstedt monument in the Nerotal facilities
- 1954: the portal relief for the school in Wiesbaden-Igstadt
- 1961: the large Merkur fountain figure for the commercial vocational school
- 1964: the design of the south gable of the Ludwig Beck School, Wiesbaden-Biebrich
- 1967: a portrait bust of the general music director Karl Elmendorff for the Hessian State Theater
- 1968: the relief for the Dilthey School
- 1970: the large fountain with his sculpture OT , called Urpflanze ( bronze ), on Kaiser-Friedrich-Platz , which was redesigned in 2004
Awards
Dostal has received numerous grants for his independent artistic forms of expression :
- the price of the cultural group in the Federal Association of German Industry
- a Rome scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service
- a scholarship from the City of Rome and
- a grant from Villa Massimo
