Ernst Habermann (born June 8, 1866 in Nordhausen ; † June 6, 1958 there ) was a German local politician. From 1897 to 1921 he was the mayor of the community , from 1906 mayor and from 1909 mayor of Deutsch-Wilmersdorf .

Life

Habermann worked as a legal assistant in the Wilmersdorfer municipal administration from November 12, 1896. A little later he became the syndic of the municipal administration and after the death of his predecessor Friedrich Stork he was elected mayor on August 16, 1897. On April 1, 1906, the municipality received town charter and the official name Deutsch-Wilmersdorf. On April 1, 1907, Deutsch-Wilmersdorf left the Teltow district and became an independent urban district . On April 24, 1907, the magistrate of the newly created town of Deutsch-Wilmersdorf elected him mayor. In 1909 he was taken over by Kaiser Wilhelm II.Appointed Lord Mayor, which he remained until Greater Berlin was founded in 1920.

When workers 'and soldiers' councils took power during the November Revolution , the mayor and the entire magistrate were asked to remain in office. The councilors appeared at the city ​​council , took their seats on the spectator benches and kept quiet. From 1920 to 1933 Habermann worked as an unpaid city councilor. He was a member of the Berlin Masonic Lodge Zu den drei Lilien .

In 1956, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, he received the honorary title of City Elder of Berlin from the City of Berlin for his services in local politics . The Habermann square , a plaque on Habermann course and the Ernst-Habermann primary school, Babelsberg Street 24/25, remember him.
