Ernst Leuschner (born March 23, 1826 in Waldenburg ; † May 3, 1898 in Eisleben ) was a German mining official, mining entrepreneur and politician .

Education and mountain officer

His father already had shares in coal mines in Waldenburg / Lower Silesia. Therefore, Leuschner entered the mining profession after graduating from high school. After a practical activity, he studied in Berlin , Breslau and Halle . After the assessor exam in 1856 he was a mountain jury for the salt works in Dürrenberg for a short time . He then became a mining master at the Saarbrücken Mining Authority . In 1858 Leuschner became Oberbergrat in the Oberbergamt Halle, before he became director of the Bergamt in Tarnowitz in 1860 .

Head of the Mansfeld copper-slate-building union

In 1861 Leuschner switched to the private sector and took over the management of the "Mansfeld copper-slate-building union" based in Eisleben. He succeeded in exploiting the actually rather poor deposit to the maximum and introduced technical innovations. During the time he was in charge, the workforce rose from 4,819 to 18963.

politics

Leuschner was also politically active. From 1866 he was chairman of the city council of Eisleben. From 1879 to 1881 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . From 1881 to 1898 he was also a member of the Reichstag . Leuschner belonged to the free conservatives . In 1884 he became a member of the Economics Council and the State Council . He was a member of the board of the Pan-German Association .

Honors

He was an honorary member of numerous scientific associations and was made an honorary citizen of Eisleben in 1886 . In 1903 a memorial was erected for him there with the Ernst Leuschner memorial.
