Ernst Reiter (born October 31, 1962 in Ruhpolding ) is a former German biathlete .

Ernst Reiter was one of the most successful German biathletes in the 1980s and an integral part of the German relay at major events. In the Biathlon World Cup he achieved many placements among the top ten. He achieved his best results in Ruhpolding , where he finished third in 1987 and won an individual in 1988.

Reiter was able to place well several times at major international events. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he won bronze medals with Walter Pichler , Peter Angerer and Fritz Fischer behind the Soviet Union and Norway. The best result at the biathlon world championships in 1985 in Egg am Etzel was sixth place in the individual. Two years later in Lake Placid he placed eighth in the individual and 15th in the sprint. With the relay (with Herbert Fritzenwenger , Angerer, Fischer) he won bronze again behind the relay of the GDR and the Soviet Union. More successfully ran the 1988 Olympic Games of Calgary . Here he only reached 29th place in the individual and was 19th in the sprint, but with the German relay ( Stefan Höck , Angerer, Fischer) he won silver behind the Soviet relay. Reiter had his last World Cup in 1989 in Feistritz an der Drau . There he was 18th in the sprint and 17th in the individual. In 1986 and 1989 he won the title of German individual champion.

After his sporting successes, Ernst Reiter turned his hobby into a profession and has worked as a golf pro for many years. Ernst Reiter has three children. He lives and works in South Tyrol.
