Ernst Strassner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Straßner (born June 19, 1905 in Eisfeld , † July 12, 1991 in Braunschweig ) was a German painter and art teacher .

Life

Straßner attended in his hometown art school and studied from 1924 art education at the University of the Arts Berlin . In painting his teacher was Georg Tappert , in drawing it was Georg Walter Rössner . In 1928, Straßner passed his first state examination at the Prussian Art School, and in 1930 his second state examination for artistic teaching at secondary schools. For three long years he lived on badly paid teaching assignments at a grammar school in Falkensee and at seminars for kindergarten teachers in Berlin. In March 1933 he joined the NSDAP and took up a permanent position in Halle at Easter 1933. A year later he moved to Halberstadt and in October 1934 was appointed lecturer at the reopened College for Teacher Training in Cottbus , which Max Momsen deliberately attended The sense of education under National Socialism . On April 20, 1938 he was appointed professor. Professionally he had to do there with the teacher Hans Bohnenkamp , who had been transferred there, and through him with the teacher Adolf Reichwein . It is doubtful whether a relationship to the resistance can be inferred from this. After Cottbus closed, Straßner briefly moved to the HfL Braunschweig and Frankfurt (Oder) before he worked at the Cottbus Teacher Training Institute from 1941 to 1945. In addition, he was called up for military service. After the Second World War he was appointed to the Kanthochschule in Braunschweig , where he held the chair for fine arts and didactics until his retirement in 1973 .

For twelve years he traveled to Ludwigsburg several times a year to paint there. His works can be found in collections and exhibitions mainly in northern Germany . In Miltach Castle there is a cycle with motifs from Greek mythology and a collection of still lifes .

Works

His work mainly includes paintings and drawings of landscapes , portraits , still lifes and figurative compositions. It was influenced by 19th century French painting .
