Ernst Teichmann (zoologist)

Ernst Gustav Georg Teichmann (born February 20, 1869 in Nienburg / Weser , † June 27, 1919 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German Protestant theologian and zoologist .

Live and act

Teichmann studied Protestant theology at various universities and graduated from the University of Bonn in 1896 . For a short time he was then pastor of the German Protestant congregation in Manchester . From 1898 to 1900 he studied zoology in Würzburg . In 1902 he received his doctorate with a thesis on furrowing fertilized sea urchin eggs without the involvement of the sperm nucleus.

From 1909 to 1910 he worked at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg . From 1911, after his habilitation , the private lecturer worked as a hydrozoologist and department head of the biological laboratory in the Hygiene Institute of the University of Frankfurt with Max Neisser .

Teichmann was the main editor of the 1st edition of the ten-volume concise dictionary of natural sciences (1912–1915).
