Life

Origin and education

Ernst Woit was born in Aschersleben on August 11, 1932. He graduated from school with a high school diploma. With his voluntary entry in January 1950, he became a member of the Barracked People's Police (KVP) of the GDR. After basic training in the 8th VP readiness ( Kochstedt / Dessau), he worked from 1951 to 1956 as a club leader and cultural instructor in various CIP offices. At the beginning of 1956, Woit was accepted into the GDR's National People's Army (NVA) as a member of a Motorized Rifle Division (MSD) .

Military and scientific career

In 1956/57 he attended a further training course at the NVA political school in Berlin- Treptow . This professional development was followed by posts in the political departments of an anti-aircraft regiment and a motorized rifle division from 1957 .

Between 1958 and 1963, Ernst Woit completed a correspondence course in social sciences at the Franz-Mehring-Institute of the Karl-Marx-Universität Leipzig , which he graduated as a certified teacher.

From 1962 to 1968 he was employed in the staff of Military District III ( Leipzig ). While working, he completed an unscheduled traineeship and received his first academic title Doctor of Philosophy (Dr. phil.) In 1967 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig - with a dissertation on changes in the anti-communist enemy image of the Bundeswehr.

In autumn 1968 he began his career as a university professor and scientist at the military academy "Friedrich Engels" (MAFE) of the NVA. As a group leader, Woit taught and researched special propaganda on the theory and practice of special armed forces propaganda.

In 1970 he was appointed professor of philosophy.

In 1976 he received his PhD B in Political Science (Dr. sc. Pol.) - with a joint dissertation on problems of special propaganda. In August 1978 he had to retire from active service in the NVA with the rank of colonel for formal security reasons.

In September 1978 Ernst Woit was appointed to the Technical University of Dresden - as a university lecturer for the history and criticism of bourgeois philosophy of the 19th and 20th centuries. Century. Here he concentrated his scientific activities on philosophical aspects of the war-peace problem and scientific and technical progress.

In 1981 Woit was appointed Associate Professor.

Peace policy work

The analyst and thinker in his scientific field was appointed to the Scientific Council for Marxist-Leninist Philosophy in 1987 . Ernst Woit was appointed to the Scientific Council for Peace Research at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in 1988 in order - with others - to create scientific preliminary work for a policy of common security against war and nuclear inferno in a joint, interdisciplinary effort.

In February 1989, on the initiative of Ernst Woit, the Interdisciplinary Working Group on Peace Research Dresden (IAFD) was set up, and scientists from the Military Academy also took part in its activities. The events that he was instrumental in initiating proved that peace research and military science can very well work towards a common goal. At the same time he was committed to a taboo-free broad inclusion of social forces.

In 1991, Ernst Woit was removed from his university career by "winding up" at the Technical University of Dresden. He remained true to his humanistic attitude as a war opponent. He worked actively in various social bodies, for example in the Saxon Peace Initiative Dresden, in the community for human rights in the Free State of Saxony (1st spokesman for the GMS).

Since 1992 he has participated in the work of the Dresdener Studiengemeinschaft Sicherheitspektiven e. V. (DSS) and published his own contributions in 40 issues of the DSS working papers .

In 1993, Ernst Woit, together with Wolfgang Scheler, suggested gaining broader publicity for peace research and structuring the content of public events in Dresden. This happened as part of the Saxon Peace Initiative Dresden as the Dresden Peace Symposium (1993–2010) and as a podium for the World Day of Peace (1993–2013), which subsequently took place annually. This can be seen as the beginning of the cooperation between the peace initiative and the Studiengemeinschaft DSS e. V. view, in which Woit was instrumental.

In 1997 he became a member of the association and from 2001 he became the deputy chairman of the board of DSS e. V. elected.

Ernst Woit was the initiator, organizer and one of the speakers at the Dresden symposia “For a Global Peace Order” (1996–2013), in which domestic and foreign scholars participated. Woit was a speaker and publicist at scientific events and a discussion partner.
