The Archdiocese of Gwangju , Kwangju also, ( lat. : Archidioecesis Kvangiuensis , kor. : 천주교 광주 대교구 ) is in the southwest of South Korea located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church , located in Gwangju .
history
The Archdiocese of Gwangju was founded on April 13, 1937 by Pope Pius XI. established as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kwoszu . The first prefect was Eugenio MacPolin SSCME . In 1950 the prefecture was renamed Gwangju Apostolic Prefecture ; 1957 took place by Pope Pius XII. the conversion to the Apostolic Vicariate Gwangju. John XXIII raised the vicariate to today's Archdiocese of Gwangju on March 10, 1962.
On June 28, 1971 there was land for the Cheju Apostolic Prefecture .
The dioceses of Cheju and Jeonju were affiliated as suffragans.
