The immediate Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Rhodes ( Latin Archidioecesis Rhodiensis ) located on Rhodes ( Dodecanese ) in Greece was founded on March 28, 1928 and has a size of 2,714 km².

history

Already at the time of the Crusades and the time of the Order of St. John there was a Latin diocese on the island, which perished with the Ottoman conquest . The titular Archdiocese of Rhodus was created. With the bull Memores Nos Pius VI united . on March 3, 1797 the Diocese of Malta with the Archdiocese of Rhodes, d. H. the title Archbishop of Rhodes went to the Bishop of Malta for the next hundred years. The territory of the Archdiocese of Rhodes went to the Apostolic Vicariate of Smyrna . On August 14, 1897, the Apostolic Prefecture of Rhodes and neighboring islands was founded out of the Apostolic Vicariate of Smyrna . On March 28, 1928, Pius XI. with the Bull Pastoris aeterni the bull of 1797 and elevated the Apostolic Prefecture to an archbishopric.
