The Esch ( French also: Ash ) is a river in France that runs in the departments of Meuse and Meurthe-et-Moselle in the Grand Est region .
geography
course
The 'Esch rises in a lake area near Jouy-sous-les-Côtes , in the municipality of Geville , drains in a generally north-easterly direction through the Lorraine Regional Nature Park and flows after 46 kilometers at the municipal boundary of Blénod-lès-Pont-à-Mousson and Pont-à-Mousson as a left tributary into the Moselle . Just before its mouth, it crosses the shortcut channel of the Moselle, which is channeled in this area.
Flow through communities
The ash flows through the communities in the department of Meuse Geville and Broussey-Raulecourt before et-Moselle Meurthe-communities in the department of Mandres-aux-Quatre-Tours , Hamonville , Ansauville , Royaumeix , Grosrouvres and Minorville crosses. There he receives the Réhanne tributary from the right . It then flows via Domèvre-en-Haye , Manonville , Lironville , Martincourt , Rogéville , Gézoncourt , Villers-en-Haye , Griscourt , Dieulouard , Jezainville to its confluence at Blénod-lès-Pont-à-Mousson and Pont-à-Mousson .
Hydrology
The Esch is a largely unregulated body of water. The average annual runoff was observed over a period of 39 years (1969-2007) in Jezainville , a little above the confluence with the Moselle. The catchment area at this point corresponds to about 231 km², thus about 96% of the entire catchment area of the river. The long-term mean of the flow rate is 1.46 m³ / s.
The flow rate of the Esch fluctuates over the course of the year, which is typical for the rivers of Lorraine. The highest water levels are measured in the winter months from January to March; the flow rate reaches its highest level of 3.49 m³ / s in February. From April onwards, the pouring goes back month by month. It reaches its lowest level between July and mid-October, with the river carrying the lowest average amount of water in August and September with 0.28 m³ / s. In dry periods, the three-day minimum average of the flow rate can in extreme cases fall to 0.035 m³ / s (that is 35 liters). In contrast to this, on May 26, 1983, the highest flow rate to date was measured at 37.3 m³ / s.
The monthly mean discharge (MQ) of the Esch in m³ / s, measured at the Jezainville hydrological station.
Data calculated from the values for the years 1969 - 2009
At the confluence with the Moselle, the discharge rate is 1.53 m³ / s; the catchment area here covers 239.3 km².
Water quality
The Agence de l'Eau Rhin-Meuse analyzed the water of the Esch near Jezainville in 2006 and classified it as "good" in category 1B. The water quality had improved slightly compared to the previous year, when the judgment was "satisfactory" (category 2).
