geography

Geographical location

The village lies at the end of a Ettisweiler moraines Riedel of Rißeiszeit between Andelsbach - and Kehlbachtal where the two valleys unite to form a wider valley.

geology

Gravel extraction in dry mining by the Martin Baur company plays a central role for Ettisweiler. The council of Krauchenwies approved in 2004 with the mining section "Ettisweiler III" an expansion of the mining area by 12.4 hectares. The previously approved mining area was 29 hectares. Raw gravel and sand are extracted from the 41-hectare mining area.

Expansion of the area

The total area of the Ettisweiler district is 182 hectares, making it the second smallest district in the Sigmaringen district.

history

The name Ettisweiler is made up of the name components Ettis and Weiler . Ettis , originally probably Otilin , was a man's name and Weiler is of Latin origin and stands for villa or house .

The village was probably built around the year 750. A secure first mention comes from the year 1094 and can be found in the record of the founding history of the St. Georg Monastery in the Black Forest when the Free Albert and Eberhard von Nendingen owned their entire property in Othelineswilare St. George handed over. Another spelling was probably Othelinesuuilare .

The place was in the area of Goldineshuntare , then in Gau Ratoldesbuch, later in the county of Sigmaringen .

In the late Middle Ages and modern times, Ötiswiler (Ettisweiler) was under estate administration of several monasteries. These included the monastery Salem , Klosterwald , Monastery Hedingen , Inzigkofen and the Holy Cross Hospital to Pfullendorf.

A sad chapter in the history of Ettisweiler is the time of the Thirty Years War (1618 to 1648). Ettisweiler lost all of its residents, the fields lay desolate, and the three farms that belonged to the hospital in Pfullendorf were deserted and empty. The courtyards stayed deserted for a long time. Only after the end of the war were people from the canton of St. Gallen resettled in Switzerland. The progenitor of the Wetz family came under the rule of the Pfullendorf hospital. This left him and his three sons the three farms in Ettisweiler in exchange for three loaves of bread. The nickname "Little Switzerland" for Ettisweiler comes from this time. Even today the residents are mockingly called “Swiss”.

During the time of the Pfullendorfer Hospital, Schupflehen goods were sold in Ettisweiler .

Ettisweiler belonged to the Sigmaringen administrative district, the Hohenzollern Lands , to the Kingdom of Prussia after the establishment of the Princely Oberamt Sigmaringen at the beginning of 1807 . However, a treaty dated October 12, 1835 stipulated that certain areas of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen were administered in customs matters by the Grand Duchy of Baden, including Ettisweiler of the Oberamt Sigmaringen.

Between 1899 and February 4, 1935, the village owned a small restaurant called Zum Löwen .

On December 1, 1910, Ettisweiler had 81 inhabitants, 72 inhabitants in 1933 and 77 inhabitants in 1939.

On December 1, 1971, Ettisweiler was incorporated into Krauchenwies.

religion

The church belonged to Zell am Andelsbach until 1822. Today St. Georg belongs to the Catholic parish of St. Odilia in Hausen am Andelsbach.

coat of arms

The local coat of arms of Ettisweiler, a divided shield in gold above a double-barred red cross, below in red a standing golden deer. The double-beamed cross, also known as the Lorraine cross , points to the Pfullendorf hospital, which was the sole landlord in Ettisweiler from the 16th to the 19th century. The stag indicates that the place once belonged to the county of Sigmaringen. The upper half of the shield reverses the Sigmaringer colors.

Proposal by the Sigmaringen State Archives from 1947. Awarded on May 31, 1958 by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of the Interior (No. IV 31/31 a Ettisweiler / 1).

Restored chapel in Ettisweiler

Chapel Ettisweiler: The chapel was built in 1879 in honor of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. George . The construction was largely financed by donations from the Didakus brothers and by the community of Ettisweiler. Ecclesiastically Ettisweiler belonged to Zell am Andelsbach until 1822 , and since then to Hausen am Andelsbach. In recent years, the chapel has been restored with a new Wimperg closure and the entrance area has been redesigned.
