The Kehlbach is a 16 kilometer long stream in the river system of the upper Danube in the district of Sigmaringen in southern Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the left and south into the lower reaches of the Andelsbach at Bittelschieß in the municipality of Krauchenwies , a tributary of the Ablach , also running northwards .

geography

course

The Kehlbach arises immediately north of the European main watershed west of Rothenlachen , a district of Wald , at 669 meters above sea level , through the union of two small spring streams. One kilometer southwest of this headwaters lies the headwaters of the Lindenbach, another tributary of the Ablach, in the Egelseemoor.

On its way the Kehlbach passes Hippetsweiler and Gaisweiler , a district of Pfullendorf . Together with penetrating groundwater, the Kehlbach contributes to the feeding of the Seepark Linzgau west of Pfullendorf. Here it changes its direction of flow to the east and flows north in a wide valley, a natural excavation of an Ice Age moraine . The Kehlbachtal was created when the Rheingletscher retreated at the end of the last glacial period, the so-called Würm glacial period . The meltwater flowing away graveled up the old valleys, caused strong lateral erosion and thus created today's box shape.

The Burraubach , a tributary on the left, flows behind Litzelbach . The Kehlbach flows through Otterswang and then passes Bittelschieß . The Kehlbach flows into the Andelsbach between Bittelschieß and Krauchenwies .

Catchment area

The Kehlbach drains through a wide valley running northwards from the middle course near Pfullendorf an area of 55.4 km² to the Andelsbach, which on this section nowhere runs more than three kilometers to the east through its own valley almost parallel. The catchment area is roughly triangular in shape, with a south-west corner close to the origin, a south-east corner on the heights south of the Pfullendorfer Tiefental and the north-east corner a little northwest of the mouth on the spur between the valleys of the now short Andelsbach lower course and the Ablach that accommodates it . The Kehlbach runs in it on a larger scale approximately east-northeast at a little distance from the southern border to the edge of Pfullendorf, where it turns north and then runs close to the eastern one.

Beyond the entire eastern watershed from the mouth to about 589  m above sea level. NHN over the forest ridge between the two valleys up to the Pfullendorfer training site at about 715  m above sea level. NHN usually flows Andelsbach close behind. The subsequent southern watershed runs towards the Linzer Aach , it briefly reaches over 720  m above sea level on the Berghölzle near Aftholderberg . NHN , it is the highest point in the catchment area. But then it sinks in the north curve, which it strikes around Aach-Linz , sometimes below 650  m above sea level. NHN ; this section is part of the European main watershed between the Danube over here and the Rhine over there.

On the long north-western border, the heights are usually 680 - 660  m above sea level. NHN . The competitors, who are now moving back to the Ablach, are here first a shorter Auenbach , then longer the Ringgenbach with its upper reaches. From around the beginning of the northern forest north of Unterkappel, there are catchment areas of small drainage tributaries on the outside of the border, of which the Gögginger Lautenbach is still worth mentioning; the terrain here mostly remains above 630  m above sea level. NHN .

history

In the Egelseemoor near Ruhestetten , remains of pile dwellings from the Neolithic were found . The Hünaburg , a ring wall system in the Krauchenwieser district of Bittelschieß , is a further testimony to prehistoric settlement history. It is located on a hill not far from the county road 8273 near Glashütte next to today's state road 456 from Krauchenwies to Pfullendorf. The Burgstall Bittelschieß was located in the Gewann Burgstall , which is divided into the so-called Vorderen and Hinteren Burgstall , also on a hill next to today's state road. The castle was located above today's Knaus-Mühle , which had a medieval forework , and not far from another castle site (called the ring wall in older maps) in the northeast corner of the castle stable on the local road to Ablach . The Gewann Burgstall rises between 600 and 660 meters above sea level on the left and above the confluence of Kehlbach and Andelsbach. The hill is a gravel deposit of the middle Rhine glacier area. Both castle sites have now been destroyed by gravel mining. On the right side of the Andelsbach, in the southwest corner of the Gewann Schlossbühl near Krauchenwies, there is another medieval castle site registered as a ring wall.
