history
The village was first mentioned in 1241 when a people priest von Kapelle appeared as a witness. The place was originally in the area of Goldineshuntare , then in Gau Ratoldesbuch and later in the county of Sigmaringen . In the 14th century the place was partly owned by the Lords of Korb from Meßkirch , whose share passed to the Wald monastery in 1355 . The monastery subsequently acquired further parts from the lords of Zimmer with the consent of the abbot of the Reichenau monastery as liege lords . In 1474, the Wald monastery had jurisdiction and rule over the village. The monastery remained local ruler until 1806, when ownership passed to Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . The owners of the count's rights changed with the owners of the county of Sigmaringen until the rights and high jurisdiction passed to Austria in 1783 with the patronage of the Wald von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen monastery . In 1806 the village, like the entire forest territory, fell to the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen through the secularization of the monastery due to the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and in 1850 to Prussia as the Hohenzollern country . From 1806 Kappel belonged to the princely and from 1850 to 1862 to the Prussian Oberamt Wald , since then to the Oberamt and from 1925 to the Sigmaringen district .
On January 1, 1975, Kappel was incorporated into the community of Wald.

coat of arms
A golden chapel in green on a lowered, double- rowed beam in red and silver .
The chapel makes the coat of arms " talking ". The red and silver sheathed Cistercian bar is reminiscent of the former Cistercian monastery Wald, which acquired property in Kappel from 1355 and to whose rule the place belonged until 1806. In that year Kappel was transferred to Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen.
The coat of arms was proposed by the Sigmaringen State Archives in 1957. It was awarded on May 31, 1958 by the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Ministry of the Interior (No. IV 31 / 31a Kappel / 1). At the same time, the municipality received the yellow-green flag.

St. Martin's Chapel
The place Kappel is mentioned as a separate parish as early as 1241. Since the church had only a few parishioners, was small and meager, and no pastor could live adequately from its income, it was incorporated into the Walbertsweiler parish church by Bishop Nikolaus von Konstanz in 1387 . Before 1800, when it testified waldische bailiff , Johann Amadeus Baratti, a lot of well-read man full of ancient history, he knew reliably records and say that once Goeggingen was the parish as a branch to Kappel. Göggingen's breakaway from Kappel may well have been the reason for the incorporation to Walbertsweiler, which was never canceled. The Oberamtmann further reports that on Markus Day around 1790 the communities Otterswang , Göggingen, Dietershofen , Menningen , Klosterwald , Hippetsweiler and Reischach came to Kappel with cross and flag processions. This and the old place name "Cappella" point to an old parish. In the second half of the 18th century, the Walbertsweiler pastor made weekly school visits in Kappel, where he taught Christians every third Sunday. The chapel was built in 1616 and had to be rebuilt in 1710. Nothing is known about what the predecessor chapel of today's chapel looked like, and no plan has been preserved. Inside the Kappl chapel owned by the political community of Wald, the altar from the time it was built and a painted crucifixion group with the two chapel patrons Markus and Martin deserve special attention. According to the inscription, the painting was painted by the abbess Margaretha von Goeberg in 1569.
