geography

Biberdamm am Ringgenbach (February 2020)

Dietershofen is located about five kilometers southeast of the city center in the so-called "Täle", on the Ringgenbach , which flows four kilometers north into the Ablach . The municipal area covers around 405 hectares (as of December 31, 2010).

history

The first written mention of the village comes from 1236 as Dietershouen . In 1265 another followed in a donation of goods to the Wald monastery . Since Dietershofen was the seat of a dean named Burkhard as early as 1261, the place could have been founded much earlier. The name should be traced back to a Dietrich who owned a farm here. The place was originally in the area of Goldineshuntare , then in Gau Ratoldesbuch and later in the county of Sigmaringen .

In the 14th century, the Counts of Rohrdorf were named as lords, who in the 15th century transferred ownership or rights to the Counts of Zimmer and the town church of Messkirch. The Wald monastery first acquired real estate in Dietershofen in 1343 and was able to call the entire parish village its own from 1412. As a result, the Wald monastery was the local lord until 1806, then ownership passed to Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen due to the secularization of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . The owners of the count's rights changed with the owners of the Grafschaft Sigmaringen until the rights were transferred to Austria in 1783 with the patronage of Kloster Wald von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen . From 1806 the village belonged to the princely and from 1850 as part of the Hohenzollern Lands until 1862 to the Prussian Oberamt Wald , since then to the Oberamt Sigmaringen , which became part of the Sigmaringen district in 1925.

Since its incorporation on January 1, 1975 as part of the municipal reform, Dietershofen has been a district of Meßkirch.

coat of arms

Blazon : In a split shield in front in black a double-rowed red-silver slanting bar, in back in gold three striding black leopards on top of each other.

The Cistercian bar in the front half of the shield recalls that the place once belonged to the Wald monastery (1412–1806), which owned there as early as the 13th century. The three leopards are the coat of arms of the Truchsessen von Waldburg-Rohrdorf, who owned rights in the municipality of Buffenhofen in the 13th century .

The coat of arms was proposed by the Sigmaringen State Archives in 1947. It was awarded on November 8, 1947 by the Württemberg-Hohenzollern Ministry of the Interior (No. IV 3012 B No. 1).

Culture and sights

Buildings

Parish Church of St. Nicholas
  • The parish church of St. Nikolaus probably already existed in the 13th or 14th century, a document mentioning the parish Dietershofen dates back to 1259. The exact year of construction of this original Mother of God Church is not known. It is consecrated to Saint Nicholas from 1501 . It was changed in 1711, 1734, 1775–84, 1809 and 1836–38 in terms of its structural status and its interior design. The artistic equipment comes from the hand of Johann Felizian Hegenauer . The altarpiece is from 1884. In the last century it was renovated twice, first in 1947 and then again between 1979 and 1981, when the church received a new organ.
