The Gascade Gas Transport GmbH (proper spelling: GASCADE, until February 2012 , Wingas Transport GmbH ), headquartered in Kassel is a transmission system operator for natural gas . GASCADE is a subsidiary of W & G Transport Holding GmbH , a joint venture between the BASF subsidiary Wintershall Dea , the largest German oil and natural gas producer, and the Russian Gazprom .

background

GASCADE operates a pipeline network in Germany with a length of around 2400 kilometers, to which the pipelines MIDAL (Central Germany Gas Connection Line), RHG ( Rehden-Hamburg Gas Line ), WEDAL (West Germany Connection Line ), JAGAL (Jamal Gas connection pipeline ), STEGAL (Sachsen-Thüringen-Erdgasleitung) and ERM (natural gas pipeline Rhein-Main). Gascade is part of the Gaspool market area and has a gas pipeline network of 2,400 km.

GASCADE was a sister company of the Wingas gas trading group until summer 2014 . The company was founded in 2010 as part of the implementation of the third liberalization package of the EU and the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). GASCADE operated under the name WINGAS TRANSPORT until the end of February 2012 . The name change to GASCADE took place in order to fulfill the stricter legal unbundling requirements and sealed the conversion to the so-called " Independent Transmission Operator" (ITO) with non-discriminatory network access for all market participants. This included the requirement to completely differentiate oneself from WINGAS 'trading activities in terms of name and image.

GASCADE Gastransport GmbH is a cooperative member of BIL eG as well as a participant in the BIL portal and provides line information via the nationwide information system for line research (BIL) operated by the cooperative .

EUGAL

Largely parallel to the route of the already existing OPAL pipeline , the 480-kilometer-long European gas connection line (EUGAL) was built in 2019 from Lubmin in Mecklenburg- Western Pomerania on the Baltic Sea coast to Deutschneudorf in Saxony and from there to the Czech Republic . In addition to Gascade (project sponsor) with 50.5%, Fluxys Deutschland GmbH , Gasunie Deutschland Transport Services GmbH and Ontras Gastransport GmbH each have a 16.5% share in this line. Almost the entire length of the line consists of two strands with an outer diameter of 1420 mm. The first EUGAL line has been in operation since January 1, 2020. In future, the gas to be transported will mainly be natural gas from Russia arriving in Lubmin via the Nord Stream pipeline . Since the NordStream pipeline is not completed due to US sanctions, gas will first be fed in from the Northern European Natural Gas Pipeline (NEL). The second EUGAL line should be completed in 2021.
