Eugen David (born September 3, 1945 in St. Gallen , legal resident in Amden and St. Gallen) is a Swiss politician ( CVP ).

David studied law at the University of St. Gallen , did his doctorate and passed the bar exam. He runs his own law firm. He also holds lectures on public law and tax law at the University of St. Gallen. Eugen David was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the insurance company Helsana until March 24, 2010 .

David was in the 1972 local council elected St. Gallen town. Eight years later he moved to the Cantonal Council , to which he was a member until 1988, and in 1987 he was elected to the National Council for the CVP . Since the 1999 elections he has represented the canton of St. Gallen in the Council of States . On March 7, 2011, he announced that he would run for a further four-year term in the 2011 Council of States elections. After he was knocked off third in the first ballot behind the newly elected Karin Keller-Sutter of the FDP and the party president of the SVP , Toni Brunner , and clearly missed the absolute majority, he withdrew from the race. In the second ballot, the SP man Paul Rechsteiner was elected just ahead of Toni Brunner.

David is a member of the board of the CVP of the Canton of St. Gallen and president of several foundations.

Private

Eugen David is married. He was a first lieutenant in the Swiss Army .
