Eugen Eichhoff (born July 13, 1897 in Lüdenscheid ; † November 23, 1983 ) was a German gymnastics official and industrialist .

Life

Eugen Eichhoff was the son of Wilhelm and Julie Eichhoff, nee Sprenger. On March 22, 1923, he married Elisabeth Wurm, the daughter of Louis Wurm . After his death, his body was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Lüdenscheid.

Sports

Eichhoff was a member of TuS Grünewald Lüdenscheid 1892 e. V. There he was appointed gymnast in 1916 and was called to the front in World War I in 1916/17. In 1923 he became Oberturnwart. and in 1925 took over the management from Wilhelm Schriewer as 1st chairman of the association. He and Wilhelm Eichhoff donated 500,000 Reichsmarks for the association's participation in the 13th German Gymnastics Festival in Munich in 1923 . During the time of National Socialism he renounced offices in the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB). However, in 1932 he took over the post of Oberturnwart in Lenne-Volme- Gau , in 1935 the post of Oberturnwart and district male gymnast of Westphalia and in 1937 as Gausportwart of Westphalia.

Eichhoff was instrumental in rebuilding the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) after the Second World War . In the management bodies of the German Gymnastics Association (DT) he was one of those who set the tone. His lectures in gymnastics served as an important contribution to setting the course for gymnastics in young post-war Germany . He was one of the 52 founders of the German Gymnastics Working Committee (DAT) founded on September 13, 1947 in Northeim , and was elected chairman when it was founded. On the occasion of the first German gymnastics festival after the World War in Frankfurt am Main ( Frankfurter Turnfest ) he was appointed head gymnast. On September 2, 1950, the DTB was re- established in Tübingen and Eichhoff was elected as its head gymnast. He remained in this position until 1954. A special concern for him was the promotion of “leisure time activities and youth education”. He also came to the approach that the DTB is not a pure art Gymnastics Federation should entfwickeln. He was also a member of the National Olympic Committee .

In his honor, TuS Grünewald Lüdenscheid organizes the club-independent "Eugen Eichhoff Sports Festival" for children every year.

Entrepreneurship

In his private life, he was the founder and owner of Eichhoff-Werke GmbH. He started a trading company in 1919 at the age of 22. In 1931 he switched to the manufacture of electrotechnical products. Branches in Germany and subsidiaries in Spain followed. In 1977, over 1,500 people were involved in production in the four German locations.

In terms of business, a shadow fell on his résumé when he was sentenced to seven months in prison with two years probation and a fine for bribery by the First Large Criminal Chamber of the Darmstadt Regional Court .
