The Evangelical Church in the Petershagen district of Buchholz is the parish church of the Evangelical Church Community of Buchholz. It belongs to the Minden parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

The Romanesque church building dates back to the 13th century . Due to its location a few meters from the banks of the Weser from the Buchholz church is also called " Weser church called". It used to be called St. John the Baptist .

Building history and architecture

Layout

The church was built in the Romanesque style in the early 13th century and is a two-bay hall church with a single-bay, retracted east choir and west tower . A semicircular, low apse , which is now used as a sacristy , adjoins the choir .

At the end of the 13th century groin vaults were drawn in and the windows widened. Today the windows on the nave are round-arched , while on the tower they are pointed arches, as is the tower entrance. The sound holes are renewed with flat arches. On the north and south sides there are round arched portals with clover leaf arches over the doors. The north portal is walled up.

Interior

In the church there is a Romanesque font with a tendril frieze , which dates from the construction time of the church, the first half of the 13th century. A Gothic chalice made of gilded silver bears the year 1581, two Renaissance - chandeliers made of bronze are dated 1656th The baroque organ from 1703 is attributed to the organ builder Hinrich Klausing from Herford .
