The Evangelical Parish Church is a church in the Odenwald community of Groß-Bieberau in southern Hesse .

Architecture and history

The baroque village church was built in the years 1726–1730 according to plans by the chief engineer Karge with the inclusion of the medieval church tower .

The church interior on an almost square floor plan has the effect of three aisles due to the arrangement of the ceiling and gallery . The circumferential gallery, supported by several wooden columns , is flatly covered. The free central space of the nave is vaulted by a barrel vault made of wood . The altar , the pulpit and the organ are arranged axially on the east side of the church.

The exterior of the church is characterized by the subdivided, curved gable set with pilaster strips in front of a slightly broken gable roof . The outer walls of the building are only structured by the segmental arched windows. A small classical portico from the beginning of the 20th century is at the entrance to the church.

The church tower rises on the straight east wall of the nave on a square floor plan up to the height of the roof ridge , where it merges into an octagon . The church tower is crowned by an eight-sided curved hood .

The enclosure of the former cemetery from the 19th century with the war memorial commemorating the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 is an integral part of the cultural monument that is worth protecting .

The parsonage next door is also a listed building.
