Everardus Johannes de Jong (born July 4, 1958 in Eindhoven ) is a Dutch clergyman , Roman Catholic theologian and auxiliary bishop in Roermond .

Life

Everardus Johannes de Jong, the oldest of six children, completed technical school training at LTS Metall (1970–1973) and MTS Electronics (1973–1976). In 1976 he entered the diocesan seminary in Rolduc Abbey in the Diocese of Roermond . After his philosophical and theological education he received on May 28 in 1983 by the bishop of Roermond, Joannes Gijsen in which Christoffelkathedraal in Roermond , the ordination . He became a chaplain in the parish of St. Gertrudis in Maasbracht . From 1984 he studied philosophy at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome . In 1986 he moved to a doctoral program at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC , he with a philosophical work on Galileo's Logical treatises and Jacopo Zabarellas Opera logic for Ph.D. finished.

After returning to the Netherlands, De Jong taught philosophy at the seminary in Rolduc. In 1994 he became cathedral chaplain at the Servaas Basilica in Maastricht and a year later also student pastor in Maastricht as well as diocesan commissioner for youth and professional pastoral care and evangelization.

On December 11, 1998, De Jong became Vicar General of the Diocese of Roermond. One day later, on December 12, 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Roermond and titular bishop of Cariana . The Bishop of Roermond, Frans Wiertz , consecrated him on February 6, 1999 in the Christoffelkathedraal in Roermond; Co- consecrators were Adrianus Johannes Cardinal Simonis , Archbishop of Utrecht , and Alphonsus Castermans , Bishop Emeritus of Roermond. His episcopal motto is "Ut vitam abundantius habeant" ( Latin so that they may have life in abundance ), a quote from the Gospel of John ( John 10.10  EU ). On June 1, 2020, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Administrator of the Dutch Military Ordinary .

In the Dutch Bishops' Conference, Everardus Johannes de Jong promotes the areas of catechesis, education and youth. He is a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and is committed to the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) .
