Flag used by the "German Empire in Exile"

The German Reich government in exile is a right-wing extremist group that is part of the Reich Citizens Movement. She claims that the German Reich continues to exist - but, contrary to established case law and prevailing opinion , not in the form of the Federal Republic of Germany .

development

The group was founded on May 8, 2004 by 26 people in Hanover . Compared to the other groups of the Reich Citizens' Movement, it flirts very clearly with right-wing extremist ideas . This includes the rejection of the role of the Allies after the Second World War (as a result, one's own legitimacy is no longer derived from the Allied High Command, because the former occupation law must not be overridden by the principle of popular sovereignty ) and the demand for the re-establishment of the German borders from 1914 and non-recognition of the Versailles Treaty . As a state symbol, the group misuses the Reich war flag with the Iron Cross, as it was used in the Weimar Republic between 1922 and 1933.

Norbert Schittke acts as the initiator of the group. At the inaugural meeting in 2004, he stated after the greeting that only a tiny fraction of the entire German Reich population had appeared, whereupon he closed the meeting and reopened it shortly afterwards. Thus, in his opinion, the assembly had a quorum, representing the entire German people. In 2012 there was a “coup attempt” within the group, in which Schittke was allegedly deposed as Chancellor, which he denies.

Schittke, who also calls himself “Prince Regent Norbert Rudolf from the Schittke zu Romkerhall family”, was appointed by the group as the so-called “Reich Chancellor of the Government in Exile”. Schittke also explained this to the police officers who stopped him on June 15, 2013, when he drove to a funeral service in Bockhorn (Friesland) in a column of his “government in exile” consisting of seven vehicles . The column vehicles were equipped with blue lights and imperial flags, which is why the police stopped them. Schittke held on January 1, 2015 as "Reich Chancellor", u. a. dressed in a sash , together with a "government colleague" giving a New Years address. At the end of the speech, the German song was performed with all three stanzas. The group is monitored by the constitutional protection offices of Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt . According to the Duisburg District Court, the group harbors “ ideologically based delusions ”.

Norbert Schittke

Norbert Schittke (* 1942), a pensioner from Hildesheim , moved into the Hildesheim district council in 1991 for the Republicans . A little later he switched to the right-wing populist DSU and the Center Party , then he founded one of the numerous instead of the party offshoots that fell out among themselves. He used to be President of the European Motorhome Drivers Association. Schittke is of the opinion that contrails from airplanes are not contrails, but "something very, very evil and mysterious , hatched at a Bilderberg conference by the mighty of this world to wipe out 85 percent of humanity". Schittke believes in the existence of Aldebarans , according to his imagination, the residents of Aldebarans who were in contact with Adolf Hitler .

reception

The German Reich's government in exile is classified as right-wing extremist by the Lower Saxony Office for the Protection of the Constitution , because a. proclaimed the continued existence of the German Reich within the borders of 1937 and thus did not recognize the Federal Republic, Maren Brandenburger told ZDF in 2012.

In its 2018 report, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution refers to the group's activities in e-business . The government-in-exile makes “typical sales offers available” and offers a. "Elaborately prepared identity cards and citizenship cards for a fee".
