Eyes of Fire is an American alternative metal band from Orange , California that formed in 1998 under the name Shiva .

history

The band was formed in 1998 under the name Shiva after drummer Evan Killbourne Mindrot left for Save Ferris . As this led to the breakup of the band, singer and guitarist Dan Kaufman and singer and bassist Matt Fisher formed the band. Shortly thereafter, keyboardist Ben Smith and drummer John Haddad joined the cast. Cary Petersen also joined the line-up as a further guitarist. Tours with groups like Meshuggah , Strapping Young Lad , Corrosion of Conformity , Lacuna Coil or Napalm Death followed through the USA. Then the band recorded a demo that they sent to various labels, whereby the band could get a contract with Century Media . Under the direction of producer Cameron Webb , the band recorded their debut album Ashes to Embers . Shortly after the release, keyboardist Smith left the band in March 2004 and was replaced by Pete Truax. In August, drummer Haddad left the band. Bobby Thomas was the new guitarist and Nicky Bernardi was the new drummer. In the fall, the band went on tour with Danzig through the USA together with Doyle , Mayhem , Death Angel and DevilDriver . In early 2005 the band played concerts with Danzig and Kataklysm in the USA. The band then went to Grandmaster Studios to record the album Prisons , with Matt Bayles as a producer. The album was released in early February 2006. For the video for the song It All Dies Today was Gary Smithson worked as a director. The release was followed by appearances, including concerts in the USA with Apocalyptica .

style

The sound of the music fluctuates between a gloomy and positive atmosphere and between soft and hard sounds. The drums play dynamic , while the vocals fluctuate between sensitive singing and aggressive screaming. The band is classified between groups such as Neurosis , Isis and Anathema . But Pink Floyd is also mentioned as an influence. Matt Fisher describes the music as a meeting of Pink Floyd and Neurosis for people with low attention spans. Eduardo Rivadavia puts the band into a category for Allmusic with Tool , Mastodon , late Isis and other representatives of a mixture of Doom , Alternative and Progressive Metal .
