In May 2010 the merger talks between Greifswalder SV 04 and HSG Uni Greifswald failed . Former sponsors of both clubs then founded FC Pommern Greifswald, which took over the place of HSG Uni Greifswald in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania League for the 2010/11 season . After a tenth place in the first season, the team coached by Eckart Märzke secured the championship and promotion to the Oberliga Nordost in April 2012 . In the league, the team was able to establish itself immediately in midfield and finished the seasons 2012/13 and 2013/14 in eighth and ninth place respectively.

After a weak start to the 2014/15 season - the team scored only six points from eight games - the club parted ways with Eckart Märzke in October 2014. After interim coach Ulrich Seidel (previously coach of the second team) was no longer available after two defeats due to his health, the team under Seidel's assistant Ralf Wichhardt lost another game. The club then signed Marco Weißhaupt , who was previously assistant coach at TSG Neustrelitz under Torsten Gütschow . But even under Weißhaupt, the team could not free itself from the table cellar. In May 2015, the club informed the NOFV that it did not plan to participate in the 2015/16 season and was the first to be relegated. In terms of sport, the team finished the season on the penultimate place in the table.

After talks about a merger of the two clubs were held with Greifswalder SV 04 before the 2014/15 season, the move took place on July 1, 2015. The team of FC Pommern Greifswald was withdrawn from the league and the entire club was dissolved. The members joined Greifswalder SV 04, which was then renamed Greifswalder FC . Despite the right to start in the Oberliga Nordost, the club decided to take the place of Greifswalder SV 04 in the Association League.

Structure and organization

FC Pommern Greifswald had two men's teams, one women's team and numerous youth teams. In July 2013, the association had around 350 members and had its headquarters in the office in Karl-Liebknecht-Ring 2, directly at Greifswald's Volksstadion .

Stadium and spectators

FC Pommern Greifswald played its home games in the Greifswalder Volksstadion , which was also used by city rivals Greifswalder SV 04 and officially has a capacity of 8,000 seats. At home games, the stadium magazine Greifswalder Fußballreport was available to viewers free of charge thanks to changing matchday sponsors .

After promotion to the Oberliga Nordost , FC Pommern Greifswald was among the upper midfield in the average attendance during the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons with an average of 259 and 305 visitors per home game. In the 2014/15 season , the club was able to attract fewer and fewer visitors due to the sporting failures and the impending dissolution with 132 visitors per game.
