Greifswald Volksstadion

The Greifswald Volksstadion is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The sports facility, which opened on May 29, 1927, has a capacity of 8,000 spectators. The entire facility offers other sports facilities such as tennis courts , football and hockey fields and basketball courts . The Greifswald leisure pool is only a few hundred meters away.

History and use

Mainly football matches take place in the stadium. It is also available for concerts. Other recreational purposes are also conceivable. The soccer teams BSG Einheit Greifswald , BSG KKW Greifswald and Greifswalder SC used to be based in the Volksstadion. In 1997, FC Bayern Munich played a friendly game that attracted around 14,000 visitors, which is still the record number of spectators.

After FC Pommern Greifswald and Greifswalder SV 04 decided in mid-2015 to merge their football departments into Greifswalder FC , the new club's home games will take place in the Volksstadion.

Stadium description

The Volksstadion has a main stand with 144 covered and 1200 uncovered seats. There is an athletics facility around the playing area. There is standing room in the rest of the stands around the stadium, with the exception of the seats opposite the main stand. However, these are mainly used by the guest fans. The entire area is surrounded by forest. An exception are the areas behind the goals, with the basketball court behind one goal and one of the entrances behind the other. The scores are shown on an LED display board. Furthermore, a natural grass has been laid on the main square ; artificial turf on the two adjacent courts . The floodlight system consists of eight light masts .

Guest fans

A fenced-in area on the stadium side facing Wolgaster Straße is provided for the guest fans. However, this is usually not used. Therefore, the guest fans mainly go to the opposite stand.
