history

Construction, commissioning and use

The Vaya II was built with hull number 613 at the Construcciones Navales Santodomingo SA shipyard in Vigo ( Spain ) and was put into service in April 1998. After that she was also used in the port of Rotterdam .

accident

On the afternoon of November 11, 2010, the tug under the name "Fairplay 22" assisted the Stena Britannica ferry coming from Harwich when it entered the port of Rotterdam in stormy weather off Hook of Holland . He capsized and the five-man crew went overboard. Three people could be saved, the captain and a machinist perished. After two tugs had temporarily held the wreck in position, it was lifted to the Rotterdam Waalhafen on November 13, 2010 by the floating crane Taklift 7 . On November 18, 2010, the "Fairplay 22" was lifted and completely pumped out. After completion of the investigations, the ship was returned to the owners and examined in a dock to determine whether it was worth repairing.

reactivation

At the beginning of June 2011 the damaged ship was moved from Eemshaven to Thessaloniki and deleted from the Germanischer Lloyd register on July 11, 2011 . Since the beginning of September 2011 the tug has been operated under the name Vaya II . After the repair, it was put back into service in June 2012. The contract shipping company is the Maritime Consortium of Thessaloniki Inc., and a Greek insurance company is the owner.
