action

In a peaceful, sleepy little town in North Rhine-Westphalia , the police officers Rocky, Deniz and the couple Hagen and Netti are on duty. There is hardly anything to do with it. Surprisingly, Tina turns up, who was commissioned by a higher authority to handle guard 23 due to the lack of criminality. In contrast to their direct superior Rainer, the four police officers do not want to put up with the closure of their station.

In order to save their jobs and to convince them of the necessity of their guard, the police officers try to fake crimes themselves and thus simulate intensive investigative work. The officers find someone in the homeless Klaus whom they can blame. Tina is suspicious of the increased crime rate, she suspects that the police might have something to do with it. During their work, the officers come across an actual criminal case, an art theft, which Tina had previously investigated without success.

reception

Christoph Petersen wrote on Filmstarts.de that the dry and black humor of Kops should actually go perfectly with the main actor Erkan Acar. But Faking Bullshit is by no means as crazy as Snow Maiden & Co. If the original had been reissued in the German instead of the Swedish provinces, the result would have been a not particularly original, but charmingly entertaining crime comedy. But the script for Faking Bullshit relies on two key additions that make the film worse instead of better. On the one hand, most of the talks revolve around the current debate about political correctness , MeToo and everyday racism . However, the film doesn't even begin to dare to go where it sometimes hurts. On the other hand, the film turns in the direction of a normal crime comedy. The entire art theft plot would consist almost entirely of unbelievable coincidences. The grand finale of all things turns out to be the film's greatest disappointment.

Marius Ochs described the film on filmpluskritik.com as a successful debut. The ensemble captivates with lovable characters who could cause laughter more than once. The sometimes well-pointed social criticism could, however, be much more sophisticated. The film also loses points because of the far-fetched plot.

Bert Rebhandl found in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the title would be a little unsuitable for a comedy that does a lot of things right in detail, but also lets itself be lulled a little by its implicit idyll. The film aims at disarming harmlessness. A self-regulating process is being demonstrated here to an agitated public who learn about gangs and clan crime every day from local newspapers: Guard 23 ensures order in a society that actually doesn't really know what problems it has.
