Far Cry is an action-adventure - computer game series of the French publisher Ubisoft . The first game in the series, Far Cry , was released in 2004 and was developed by the German game developer Crytek . All other publications were developed by Ubisoft Montreal .
Main series
Far Cry
Far Cry was released on March 25, 2004 as a development by Crytek . The game was the first game with the CryEngine developed by Crytek . The player controls the ex-soldier Jack Carver, who finds himself stranded somewhere in Micronesia . There he is looking for the journalist Valerie Constantine, who is missing after an attack on her boat.
Far Cry 2
On October 24, 2008, Far Cry 2 was released for Windows, Xbox 360 and PS3 in Europe. The game was first officially announced by Ubisoft in October 2007 . It was no longer developed by Crytek , but by the Ubisoft Montreal studio (including Splinter Cell Conviction , Assassin's Creed ). That is why the game Crysis by Crytek is considered to be the unofficial Far Cry successor. Far Cry 2 moves the plot to a fictional state in Africa and is supposed to tell a more realistic story than its predecessor.
There are connections between the stories from Far Cry and Far Cry 2 through the official novels; Characters like Jack Carver, Zam and Marty can be found in both books and thus connect the scenarios on a literary level.
Far Cry 3
The third part of the main series was also developed by Ubisoft Montreal and was released on November 29, 2012 for Windows PCs, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Far Cry 3 tells a story that is independent of the previous games. The protagonist and his friends, including his two brothers, are kidnapped by pirates. His older brother is murdered and the main character begins an act of revenge. The game contains role-playing elements in which the player receives experience points. He can invest this in new skills. It is also possible to improve equipment with the skin of animals killed. Collected plants can, for example, be processed into syringes that increase skills.
Far Cry 4
The fourth part of the series was released on November 18, 2014 for PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The development of Far Cry 4 were Ubisoft Montreal , Red Storm Entertainment , Ubisoft Kiev, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Toronto involved .
For the first time ever in a Far Cry game, the player will be able to hunt, fight, and explore with a friend in the open world. As a mercenary, the player can invite a friend into their own world to free towers together, take over outposts and share the booty with each other. Hurk, known from Far Cry 3's monkey business add-on, joins the fight for Kyrat. Far Cry 4 is set in the fictional country Kyrat, which is located in the Himalayas .
Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 , the fifth game in the video game series, was released on March 27, 2018. This part was released for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It takes place in today's America ( USA ) in the fictional Hope County in real Montana . Here the player leads a resistance against a sectarian movement that believes in the end of the world.
Far Cry 6
The sixth installment in the series is under development and is expected to be released on February 18, 2021. It is set on a fictional Caribbean island called Yara.

Far Cry Instincts
On September 30, 2005, Far Cry Instincts was released in Germany for Xbox . The development of a PlayStation 2 version was initially announced, but officially stopped on July 10, 2005. This was the first game in the series to be developed by Ubisoft Montreal .
The main story and the tropical setting are also included in the Xbox version. Even so, Far Cry Instincts is not a PC port, but a standalone game. Compared to the original version, the game offers many additional innovations and an online mode. Like the AI , the level editor is included in the Xbox version. A "trap mode" has been added to the game, with which it is possible to place traps in the area. There is also a “Predator” or “Predator” mode. This allows the player to release animal instincts such as B. higher jumping or strong melee attack.

Far Cry Instincts: Evolution

Far Cry Vengeance

Paradise Lost
The arcade game Paradise Lost was released in 2007 as a port from Far Cry Instincts . It was developed by Global VR , Ubisoft acted as publisher.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
On May 1, 2013, Ubisoft released the separate download extension Blood Dragon from the main game . This puts the player in a retro-futuristic game world that is based on the representation of action and science fiction films of the 1980s, such as Terminator 2 - Day of Reckoning and Predator .
Far Cry Primal
On October 6, 2015, Ubisoft announced Far Cry Primal with a trailer on their YouTube channel . The game is set in the Stone Age (10,000 BC) and was released on February 23, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . The Windows implementation followed on March 1, 2016. Far Cry New Dawn
On December 6, 2018, Ubisoft released a teaser for a Far Cry set in a post-apocalyptic world . On December 7, 2018, a trailer and first gameplay scenes for the game named Far Cry New Dawn were published. Far Cry New Dawn is set in fictional Hope County 17 years after the events of Far Cry 5 and was released on February 15, 2019.

Roman translations
The novel for Far Cry was published by Panini in early December 2007 . The novel contains the entire story of Far Cry , but goes further than the video game and also tells the story of Jack Carver and other main characters. The author is Michael T. Bhatty , who was also one of the two lead game designers of the action role-playing game Sacred and the producer of casual games .
The second volume, Far Cry 2: Bloody Diamonds , was released in May 2008 and is the official prelude to the game Far Cry 2 . The two stories are independent of each other, but have similarities in terms of content.
Another novel was published in February 2018 under the title Far Cry 5: Forgiveness , written by Urban Waite . The novel deals with the prehistory of the video game Far Cry 5 and has nothing in common with the previous novels .

Film implementation
Uwe Boll , who has already brought other video game adaptations to the cinemas, announced plans for a film version of the first part in 2004 . The budget should be around 30 million US dollars. According to Uwe Boll's statement in October 2006, filming started in May 2007. Producers were Uwe Boll, Dan Clarke and Shawn Williamson. The executive producer was Wolfgang Herold . The main role of Jack Carver was played by Til Schweiger . The film was released in German cinemas on October 2nd, 2008 and, like the game itself, is called Far Cry .
Even before the game Far Cry 5 was released, a 30-minute film adaptation entitled Far Cry 5: Inside Eden's Gate appeared on Prime Video , which deals with the game itself. Performers include Greg Bryk , Kyle Gallner and Alexis Santiago .
