Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a first person shooter for Windows , PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 . The computer game is a standalone add-on to the first-person shooter Far Cry 3 , which was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and was released on May 1, 2013 as part of the Far Cry game series.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a neon -poppigen retro-futuristic style of the 1980s held -years. The characters, plot, depictions of violence and " cartoon " interludes are stylistically heavily exaggerated , self-deprecating and teeming with black humor and references to action and science fiction films from the 1980s, such as Terminator and Predator . Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon has no relation to Far Cry 3 in terms of content , but represents a separate game.

The action takes place in a dystopian alternative world story in 2007, after a devastating nuclear war between the Eastern and Western blocs in the 1990s . The player controls a Mark IV Cyber Commando - cyborg named Rex "Power" Colt (in the original version voiced by Michael Biehn , in the German version of Norman Matt ) of the US Army, the enemy cyborg army Omega Force under the Colonel Sloan turned vicious on a remote island teeming with Blood Dragons and mutants .

To generate the game world, the developers used the topographical data of the South Island of the main game again. The box art for the game was designed by James White, who already designed the artwork for the film drive . The trailers for the game were kept in artificial VHS quality. The website is also kept in a retro style and shows, among other things, supposed merchandise items in its “shop” .
The electronic band Power Glove from Australia contributed the soundtrack for the game . This was partly published on SoundCloud .
Just two months after the game was released, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced that the game had sold more than 500,000 copies. An exact breakdown of sales for PC, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 was not disclosed, but that in the wake of the success of the 1980s homage , sales of Far Cry 3 also increased.
Spin-off
With Trials of the Blood Dragon one appeared in 2016 crossover - a spin-off of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and the Trials -Motorradrennen games series of RedLynx. It is set in 2019. The children of Rex “Power” Colt, Roxanne and Slayter, go armed on motorcycles in the fourth Vietnam War to save the world.

- In a video sequence in Far Cry 3 there is a dialogue alluding to an island populated by dinosaurs.
- In the game Far Cry Primal , released in 2016, a skeleton and the eggs of a Blood Dragon can be seen as an Easter egg in a cave .
