Fearless Vampire Killers were a five-piece alternative rock band formed in London in 2008 . Their final line-up consisted of singer and guitarist Laurence Beveridge, Kier Kemp, who is also the band's singer and guitarist, bassist Drew Woolnough, lead guitarist Cyrus Barrone (real name Shane Sumner) and drummer Luke Illingworth (known as Pillnahn ).
The name of the band comes from Roman Polański's film Dance of the Vampires , in the original The Fearless Vampire Killers .
Her debut album Militia Of The Lost was released on May 14, 2012 on Goremount Records in England. Singer Laurence Beveridge describes Militia Of The Lost as a concept album about "love, loss and addiction" and as "an album about the struggle to find a place in society". The songs on the album are about "the events in the lead up to, and subsequently the repercussions, of the city's royal palace being set on fire" and "five men [that] cross paths and get dragged into this world of monsters and crazed revolutionaries." ".
history
The band was founded in 2007 under the name "Remember When". At that time it consisted of the current members Laurence Beveridge, Kier Kemp and Cyrus Barrone and one of the former drummers of Fearless Vampire Killers, Luke Fairhead. All Remember When members grew up together in Waveney Valley , Suffolk . However, shortly after they moved to London, Remember When broke up. Shortly afterwards, in 2008, the former members came together as Fearless Vampire Killers. A short time later, Drew Woolnough joined them as bassist, who had previously played with Laurence in a band called Self-Titled. After various drummers, the current line-up was completed in 2011 by drummer Luke Illingworth.
In addition to their music, the band members do a lot of the rest of the work. Cyrus Barrone designs and draws the templates for the band merchandise; He also drew an alternative, animated music video for their single Palace in Flames . The band also directs all of their videos. Laurence Beveridge has also written a 334-page novel, Ruple & Evelyn , which plays Grandomina in the fictional world and tells the events behind her songs, even though the novel is set about 600 years before what happened in the songs.
Separation and start-up
On July 4, 2016, Fearless Vampire Killers announced their split
Kier Kemp founded the band inklings with Michael Lane relatively soon.
The founding of the band under the name The Broken Kings was announced on March 17, 2018. The band only consists of Laurence Beveridge, Drew Woolnough and Luke Illingworth, three of the original line-up of Fearless Vampire Killers.
Influences and style
The influences of the band are partly different, as each band member brings their own taste in music. They name David Bowie , Queen , Green Day , Weezer , Danny Elfman , Iron Maiden , Avenged Sevenfold , Metallica and The Kinks, among others .
In a review by Rock Sound of their first EP, In Grandomina ... their songs are described as "Pop-Rock tending towards Gothic", but the band themselves often humorously refer to their style of music as "Danny Elfman Diarrhea". They were proposed for fans of the American rock bands My Chemical Romance , Black Veil Brides and Aiden , as well as for fans of the British rock band Muse . Bizarre Magazine wrote, “When My Chemical Romance and Panic! If they mate at the Disco , their offspring would look like Fearless Vampire Killers ”and that they were“ incredibly promising ”.
A large part of her outfits - especially the stage outfit of Cyrus Barrone - is inspired by steampunk as well as by “France around the turn of the century, bohemian ideas from the late 19th century, short vests and a bit of the old eyeliner,” says Kier Kemp.
