Federal-Mogul ( FM ) is a global automotive supplier headquartered in Southfield , Michigan (near Detroit ). The company consists of two independent business units, each with a Chief Executive Officer, and employs around 53,000 people worldwide.

Federal-Mogul Powertrain manufactures OEM components for the powertrain and system safety products for automotive, commercial vehicle, industrial and transportation applications.

Federal-Mogul Motorparts supplies a broad product portfolio with more than 20 world-famous brands (including Jurid , Ferodo , Champion , Nüral , Glyco and MOOG ) to the global vehicle aftermarket and also supplies manufacturers from the OEM sector with products such as brake pads and chassis parts and wipers .

history

The company was formed in 1923 from the merger of Muzzy-Lyon , Federal Bearing and Bushing and Douglas-Dahlin .

  • In 1955, Federal-Mogul merged with Bower Roller Bearing .

Federal-Mogul Burscheid GmbH in Burscheid (formerly Goetze AG) produces piston rings with around 1,800 employees; The global technology center for piston rings is also located in Burscheid. Further locations of the piston ring group in Germany are Dresden and Friedberg (here also production of cylinder liners and face seals).

In 2012, after the takeover of Beru AG from BorgWarner, the spark plug plant in Neuhaus-Schierschnitz / Thuringia was integrated into the group as Federal-Mogul Ignition GmbH. The product portfolio includes a total of 250 different spark plugs, ignition electrodes and ceramic parts. As one of the few manufacturers, the plant produces all of its electrodes in-house. In addition, the approximately 200 employees also manufacture caps and runners for the spare parts business.

With the takeover of Honeywell Friction in 2014, Federal-Mogul Bremsbelag GmbH in Glinde became part of the Federal-Mogul Group. The approximately 950 employees at the site manufacture brake pads under the Jurid brand .

In spring 2015, Federal-Mogul took over the Engine Valve division from TRW Automotive with the German plants in Barsinghausen, Beckedorf and Blumberg (Federal-Mogul Valvetrain GmbH). Around 1,350 employees work here.

Innovations

In 2016 Federal-Mogul presented several innovations: a piston with an integrated cooling liquid made from high-temperature oil and noble gas, a coating with an increased diamond content for piston rings and stronger cylinder liners made of cast iron.
