The Felix Wankel Animal Welfare Research Prize is a science prize awarded by the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

The Animal Welfare Research Award was founded by Felix Wankel in 1971 and awarded for the first time in 1972. The award is given to scientific work in the context of animal welfare (e.g. restriction of animal experiments , accommodation of experimental animals , pets and farm animals , basic research in animal welfare). The prize is endowed with a maximum of 30,000 euros (as of 2015) and can be divided among several winners. The use of the prize money is not tied to conditions.
