Ferdinand Friedrich von Reichenstein (born March 7, 1723 in Sul near Belgrade , † August 10, 1794 in Kreuzburg ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Ferdinand Friedrich was the son of the Austrian Rittmeister in the Hohenzollern cuirassier regiment , Karl Albert von Reichenstein and Charlotte Sophie von Wallbrunn, who died in 1741 near Mollwitz .

At the beginning of 1758 Reichenstein married Elisabeth von Engelhardt († 1780), widowed von Osorowski. She brought him two stepdaughters, of whom Sophie Eva Friederike von Osorowski married Ernst Rudolf von Tschammer , Prussian major and commander of Hussar Regiment No. 3 , in 1787 .

Reichenstein began his career in 1740 as a volunteer in the Austrian hussar regiment of Splényi and participated in the First Silesian War , especially the battle of Mollwitz , which was so fateful for his father , the sieges of Neisse and Prague as well as the battles near Strehlen, Passau and Munich.

As early as 1743 he entered Prussian service as a cornet in Hussar Regiment No. 3 . He was promoted to Second Lieutenant in 1748 and Prime Lieutenant in 1754 before joining the Seven Years' War . In 1757 he took part in the battles near Prague and Kolin . In the war year 1759 Reichenstein was first assigned to Poland for advertising , promoted to staff assistant master and finally to cavalry master and squadron chief. In the following year he fought in the Battle of Torgau . After he was promoted to major in 1773, he also took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . In 1785 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1787 to colonel and finally in 1788 to commander of Hussar Regiment No. 3, to which he had consistently belonged.

Reichenstein's Dimission with 600 Taler pension took place in October 1789, whereby in November 1789 he was awarded the character of Major General and the Pour le Mérite . In 1791 he received another 200 thalers pension allowance.
