Ferdinand Schröder (pedagogue)

Franz Wilhelm Ferdinand Schröder (born October 20, 1812 in Wismar , † December 20, 1884 in Schwerin ) was a German theologian and educator .

Life

Ferdinand Schröder attended high schools in Wismar, Güstrow and Rostock . He studied first at the University of Rostock and from 1831 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin with Friedrich Schleiermacher and Henrich Steffens .

In 1833 Schröder became a teacher at the Friedrich-Franz-Gymnasium (Parchim) . In 1843 he came as a pastor at the Nikolaikirche in Schwerin. In 1851 he became a consultant in the Mecklenburg Ministry of Education. As a high school supervisor, he accompanied the relocation of the teachers' college from Ludwigslust to Neukloster and the establishment of the state institution for the blind in Neukloster.

From 1848 to 1854 Schröder published the newspaper for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg with Karsten, Theodor Kliefoth , Otto Carsten Krabbe and Franz Delitzsch .

Schröder retired in 1868 and moved to Rudolstadt a year later. As an opponent of the Prussian church policy of the 1870s, he was active as a journalist. At the request of Friedrich Franz II. (Mecklenburg) , he defended this against Friedrich Rogge (1808–1889) and his work A rare life (Zurich 1877) , published under the pseudonym “Paul Welf” .
