The Ferry Lavender (フ ェ リ ー ら べ ん だ あ) was a ferry of the Japanese shipping company Shin Nihonkai Ferry that was put into service in 1991 . She remained in service in Japanese waters until 2004 and then served as the Ionian King in the Mediterranean until 2011 . The ship spent the last years of service up to its retirement in 2014 in Asia. After three years of time spent was made in 2017 the demolition in Indian Alang .

history

The Ferry Lavender was built under hull number 3012 in the Ishikawajima-Harima shipyard in Tokyo and was launched on March 1, 1991. On September 21, 1991 it was delivered to Shin Nihonkai Ferry and in the same month it was put into service on the route from Maizuru to Otaru . Sister ships were the New Akashia (1988), the Ferry Azalea (1994) and the Ferry Shirakaba (1994).

In December 2004 the Ferry Lavender was retired after 13 years of service and sold to the Greek shipping company Agoudimos Lines . On January 12, 2005, the ship, now renamed the Ionian King , arrived in Perama , before it began service from Patras via Igoumenitsa to Bari on September 22, 2005 after conversion work .

In 2011, as part of the Arab Spring , the Ioanian King took part in the evacuation of foreign civilians from Libya due to the riots there. After a short layover , the ship was in service between Brindisi , Corfu and Igoumenitsa from July 2011 , before being launched again in September 2011.

In the same month the ferry, now registered for Step Shipping in Panama , was returned to Japan as Victory Step and renamed Ocean Rose after arriving there in October 2011 . Between February and November 2012, the ship was in use between Nagasaki and Shanghai and then lay up in the port of Busan .

In February 2013, the Ocean Rose in Guangzhou was converted into a casino ship and from April 2013 onwards it was used by Grand Cruises as an Ocean Grand for short trips between Singapore and Malaysia in a charter from Somerset Asia . In July 2014 operations were stopped and the ship launched again. In May 2017, after 26 years of service , the Ocean Grand was finally sold for demolition in Alang, India, where it arrived under the transfer name Ocean .
