Fiona Monbet (born September 25, 1989 in the Seine-et-Marne department ) is a French-Irish jazz violinist .

Live and act

Monbet, who has a French father and an Irish mother, received classical violin lessons from the age of eight. At the age of ten, at a Didier Lockwood concert , she became enthusiastic about jazz , and then took lessons at the Center de musiques Didier Lockwood in Dammarie-lès-Lys . In 2005, 2006 and 2007 she was awarded the Prix Jeune talent of the SACEM . Monbet studied since 2008 at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris with Alexis Galpérine.

In 2008 Monbet founded her own quartet with Armel Dupas (p), Ronan Courty (b) and Mathieu Penot (dr), with whom she received scholarships from the Talents du Fonds d'Action of the SACEM and with her quartet the first prize at the Trophées du Sunside won. In a duo with pianist Romain Louveau, she won the Piano Chamber Music Award in 2014 at the International Summer Academy competition at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . She also wrote most of the compositions for her debut album O'Ceol (2013). Her album Contrebande (Crescendo) followed in 2018 .

From 2008 onwards, supported by Lockwood, she appeared at festivals or at club concerts with musicians such as Christian Escoudé , Philip Catherine , Jean-Philippe Viret , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Marcel Azzola , Jean-Marie Ecay, Jean-Marc Jafet, Baptiste Trotignon , André Ceccarelli , Thomas Dutronc, Alain Jean-Marie , Boulou and Elios Ferré . In 2016 she replaced Thomas Gould in the Man Overboard Quintet . In addition to Biréli Lagrène and Stochelo Rosenberg , she took part in the Django Drom tour since 2010 and also appeared in Tony Gatlif's documentary Indignados (2012). She also appeared as a violinist in the feature film Chant d'hiver .
