The Flauchersteg is a pedestrian bridge over the Isar in Munich .

location

The Flauchersteg is located at the southern end of the Flaucher and runs over the Thalkirchner raids, a weir and several gravel islands, where the Isar overcomes a height difference of about 2.50 meters. The northern third of the footbridge is still in the Sendling district , the southern two thirds run over the Thalkirchen area . The footbridge ends in the Siebenbrunn district of the Untergiesing-Harlaching district and connects three Munich districts with one another. The continuation of the Flauchersteg from Flaucher to the west over the large Stadtbach forms the Schinderbrücke .

history

The Flauchersteg, colored drawing by Franz Leinecker (1885)

For the weir at the Thalkirchner raids, which served to divert the Great Stadtbach from the Isar, there was already a work platform for maintenance work. A real pedestrian walkway was only built in 1885 and replaced by a new building in 1890. In 1914 the Flauchersteg was rebuilt as a wooden bridge on concrete pillars. During the Second World War , the Flauchersteg was badly damaged by bombs in 1943, and in 1945 it was repaired.

Due to the dilapidation, the wooden supporting structure of the footbridge was replaced by a steel structure during a general renovation in 2000/2001 , but the larch wood fittings meant that the original character of the bridge structure was at least partially preserved. But even before and after that, parts of the Flauchersteg had to be renewed several times due to underwashing during floods, most recently its eastern part was replaced during the Alpine floods in 2005 in the area of the 340-meter-long weir bypass water that was built as a fish pass at the end of 2000 and has a flow of around 500 liters was designed per second, badly damaged: one of the concrete pillars sagged by more than a meter, causing the footbridge to sink and undulate to a length of about 50 meters. The fish passage, which was built with great effort, was also completely washed away or covered with gravel. The damaged section of the Flauchersteg was closed to passers-by until spring 2006. After renovation work, the footbridge has been completely accessible again since June 2006.
