Flora Veit-Wild

Flora Veit-Wild , née Flora Veit (born May 18, 1947 in Wiesbaden ) is a professor i. R. at the Humboldt University of Berlin in the Department of Asian and African Studies . She specializes in African literatures and cultures with a focus on Zimbabwe .

Flora Veit, a great-granddaughter of the doctor Ernst von Leyden , studied Romance and German at the universities in Freiburg and Berlin and graduated in 1972 with the first state examination for a higher teaching degree . The clerkship in Essen from 1972 to 1974 she successfully completed the second state examination .

Flora Veit's teaching activity in Essen and Nuremberg from 1974 to 1982 was interrupted several times in 1975 and 1976 by dismissals from the public service or other employment relationships , as she was an active member of the Maoist Communist League of West Germany (KBW). This organization demanded an "open appearance" from its supporters. B. for teachers meant having to sell the central organ of the Communist People's Newspaper (KVZ) in the staff room and on Saturdays in the main shopping streets . Their dismissals were made public several times in lengthy articles in the KVZ , as was customary at the KBW at the time.

From 1983 to 1993 Flora Veit-Wild stayed with her husband in Harare ( Zimbabwe ). In 1991 she was at the University of Frankfurt in the subject English Studies doctorate . Her dissertation was published as a book in 1992. After teaching positions at the Universities of Mainz and Hanover from 1993 onwards, she was professor for African literatures and cultures at the Humboldt University in Berlin from September 1994 to the summer semester 2012 . As a visiting professor , she taught in Yaoundé and at the University of California, Santa Cruz .

Flora Veit-Wild has been editing the estate of the Zimbabwean writer Dambudzo Marechera since 1988 . She is the deputy chairwoman of the German-Zimbabwean Society.
