Enrique Norten (* 1954 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican architect and director of Taller de Enrique Norten Arquitectos SC (TEN Arquitectos).

biography

Norten studied architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana and graduated there in 1978 with a BA degree. After completing his postgraduate studies at Cornell University in Ithaca , he received his MA degree there in 1980 and then worked from 1981 to 1995 as a partner at Albin y Norten Arquitectos SC, his actual work as an architect. In 1986 he founded the Taller de Enrique Norten SC (TEN) in cooperation with Bernardo Gómez-Pimienta , which he now heads. He was a co-founder and member of the editorial board of the Mexican trade journal "Arquitectura".

Norten, who was also a member of numerous juries and juries, has been an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1999 , a member of the Deutsche Bank Council and since 2000 a member of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte (SNCA).

From 1980 to 1990 he was Professor of Architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and has already lectured as a visiting professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, Parsons The New School for Design and the Pratt Institute in New York City , at SCI-Arc in Los Angeles , Rice University in Houston , Columbia University and as "Eero Saarinen" visiting professor of architectural design at the Yale School of Architecture in New Haven . He has held the O'Neal Ford Chair of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin , Emil Lorch Professor in the Chair of Architecture at the University of Michigan , and the Elliot Noyes Guest Design Critic at Harvard University .

He currently holds the Miller Chair at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia . His company TEN Arquitectos has had a branch in New York City since 2001, with 25 employees in Mexico and 35 in the United States. The company enjoys international recognition, has been represented at numerous competitions and has received awards for projects. Among other things, TEN Arquitectos received an honorary entry in the “Design” category at the Museo Guggenheim de Guadalajara in 2006 by the American Institute of Architects.
